Science is an important part of a student’s curriculum, right along with learning to read and do math problems. Children are naturally curious, and science can help to satisfy that curiosity providing valuable ideas, skills and potential future career choices.
Students at Centertown Elementary had the opportunity to participate in the annual Science Fair, with 112 projects on display in the school gymnasium. Some entries were from individuals, and some were submitted as a group entry.
According to fair organizer and science teacher Robyn Kirby, more and more students are choosing to participate in the fair with a variety of topics and experiments.
“All the students performed tests on topics spanning the subject of science,” said Kirby. “Some tests performed were from pulley strength, density, renewable and nonrenewable resources to the effects of exercise and caffeine on the heart rate. Many household items were tested from clothing detergent and paper towel performance to tissues and toothpaste brands.”
