Southern Standard’s Customer Apperception Day on Friday attracted hundreds seeking free food, discount subscriptions, and the chance to win valuable prizes.

Offered to guests on Valentine’s Day were hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks.

“We’ve been coming to your hotdog day for many years,” said James Vaugh with his wife, Cheryl. “We enjoy it. We’ve been together for more than 30 years.”

Cheryl added, “There’s nothing better than a hotdog, unless it’s a free hotdog.”

At the Standard, we love our customers. Purchased were enough provisions to create 400 meals.

“Our goal was to make everyone happy,” said publisher Pat Zechman. “Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. It was another successful Customer Appreciation Day.”

Gabrielle Lusk, who was out of school and at the Standard with Margaret Lusk, was among the hundreds entering for a chance to win. Among the giveaways were a microwave, boxes of chocolates and free newspaper subscriptions.

“I’m not sure what I want to win,” said Gabrielle. “I already have a box of chocolate. If I get another one, I’ll be bouncing around. That might not be good.”

Doris Dunlap renewed her subscription at a discounted rate. She and her husband are Standard enthusiasts.

“We love getting the newspaper,” said Dunlap. “We’ve been subscribers for many, many, many years. We wait for it every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. We can’t wait to see what’s in it and look through every page.”
