Warren County High School juniors were honored recently by Berea College as Woodson Scholars and Hurst Scholars for outstanding accomplishments in the areas of academics, service and leadership.
WCHS juniors Keirra Crichlow, Amanda Louis, Ashlyn Terry and Gabrielle Himes were selected as recipients to receive the Woodson Scholar Award.
The Woodson Scholar Award honors the late Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an esteemed alumnus of Berea. A respected historian, Woodson is known worldwide as “The Father of Black History. The Carter G. Woodson Legacy Scholar Award is named in his honor as a means of recognizing African-American high school juniors who have demonstrated outstanding character, academic achievement and leadership — as exemplified in the life of Dr. Woodson and the legacy of Berea College.
WCHS juniors Alejandro Bartolo, Bethany Maneiro, Jamon Guevara, Jared Palomo-Salcido and Amy Garcia Hernandez were also recognized as Hurst Scholars. This award is named after Dr. Samuel Hurst, Berea College alumni, and "The father of one-atom physics and the inventor of today’s omnipresent touch screen technology ... He created a technological revolution that has changed the way we interact with our world."
These students will be recognized and receive the scholarship, awarded at a banquet on Berea College campus later this academic school year.
Congratulations to each of you!
