Pioneer TB Rickie King had a big game rushing

The Scott Smith era began in explosive fashion Friday night in Smithville.

The WCHS football team used flashy TD runs from Bryson Lewis and Rickie King to capture a high-scoring victory on the road, 34-30.

Pioneer quarterback Christian Wilkinson had a productive game in his first varsity start as he ran for two TDs and threw for another. Combined with a 73-yard TD run from Lewis and a 60-yarder from King, it was enough to put WCHS over the top.

The win gives Warren County a 1-0 start for the first time since 2010. It also matches the team’s victory total for all of last year.

After falling behind 10-0, the Pioneers went on a 34-7 run to take a commanding lead. DeKalb County scored as time expired to account for the final margin.

Pioneer DBs Adrian Lusk and Ethan Fliss also came up big. Both had second-half interceptions.
