Water director still needed

McMinnville has received 10 applications from people interested in being the city’s next director of the Water and Wastewater Department.
“We have received 10 applications since the job was posted,” said Human Resource administrator Jennifer Rigsby. “Two of them have McMinnville addresses, while the rest are not local.”
The salary range is $45,801 to $85,092.
The position has been filled by Public Works director Bill Brock since September 2010. After four years and being recently named interim city administrator, Brock asked officials to lighten the load placed upon him and begin advertising for a new director.
“We need someone in that department who can dedicate eight hours a day to it,” said Brock in September. “I can’t do that. My time is spread out to other things. I’m not doing it justice with an hour or two a day.”
According to Rigsby, a couple of applicants look promising.
“You always get some that are not qualified for the job but there are two that look really promising,” she said.
The job description requires an individual who graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil engineering or related field or an associate degree may be substituted with eight years of progressively responsible experience required or five years of progressively responsible experience in water and wastewater operations of which two years must have been in a responsible supervisory consultative, or administrative capacity.
Other requirements include a valid Tennessee driver license and residency within McMinnville city limits or move within 90 days of employment.
There is no deadline to apply. Applications are still being accepted. Rigsby says interviews might not begin until December.
“We are currently hiring for a police officer, Park Theatre coordinator, athletic coordinator and sports referees,” said Rigsby. “I don’t see interviews beginning for Water Department director until maybe after Christmas. It could be in December, but I doubt it.”
A full job description is available on the city’s website at www.mcminnvilletenn.com, as well as how to apply.
