A drunk driver caught driving with three small children in his vehicle will serve two nights in jail.
The man, Joshua Vazquez, 26, entered guilty pleas before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke to the charge of DUI and to one count of reckless endangerment. Two other counts of reckless endangerment, one apiece for each child who was in his car, were dismissed.
Vazquez was directed to serve 48 hours of an 11-month, 29-day sentence, pay $350 plus costs, perform 24 hours public service work, attend DUI class and lose his driver license for one year. He will report to jail Jan. 5.
Vazquez was pulled over after McMinnville police officer Justin Cobble noticed the suspect was not properly displaying his license plate. The officer said he immediately knew something was wrong.
“I could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and on his person,” Cobble said, noting the suspect’s eyes were also blood shot. “He admitted to drinking earlier.”
Vazquez failed his field sobriety tests and was arrested at the scene for drunk driving. It was then the extra charges were added for the three children in the car. They were ages 1, 5, and 8.
