Two youths have been sentenced to nine months in jail for robbing On the Way Market on South Chancery Street. The defendants, Daniel Reyes, 19 and Adrian Smith, 21, both entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of robbery and were ordered to serve 270 days of three-year sentences.According to McMinnville Police Detective Sgt. Nichole Mosley, the heist happened in September when the two youths walked into the store wearing hoodies to obscure their identities.“One of them (Reyes) forced the clerk to the ground while the other (Smith) tried to get into the store safe,” Mosley said, noting the clerk got a good look at both of them. “He (Smith) broke the handle of the safe while trying to enter the code,” said Mosley, noting Smith then set his sights on the cash drawer.Mosley noted he was able to gain entry into the cash drawer and left with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects ran away on foot with the proceeds from their robbery in hand. However, the clerk recognized the two men since they were regular customers and had visited there earlier in the evening to buy cigars.Police were able to track down where the suspects were hiding out and had them brought back to the store where they were arrested a short time after the robbery.
