RUTLEDGE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in East Tennessee say a man who was caught stealing an all-terrain vehicle crashed while fleeing officers and was killed.

Grainger County officials told The Knoxville News Sentinel, 51-year-old Kyle "Eddie" Brooks of Maryville died when his truck crashed on Highway 131. The crash was initially reported as occurring Sunday, but the Grainger County Sheriff's Office said it happened in late August.

Officers said the weight of the ATV, combined with the curvy road and high speed were factors in the crash.

A male passenger in Brooks' truck was taken to University of Tennessee Hospital. His name wasn't released.
