NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Metro Nashville police have charged a man in connection to a fatal shooting near downtown Nashville.

Media outlets report that 24-year-old Jonathan Hudspeth has been charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 27-year-old Jacquard Evans on Sunday.

Police say in a news release that officers responded to a report of a shooting early Sunday at a residence near downtown. Capt. Jason Sterling says they found Evans outside, on the sidewalk, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say Evans had gone to the residence to pick up his belongings, which his girlfriend placed outside, and he and his girlfriend got into a verbal and physical altercation. Hudspeth saw the altercation and shot Evans.

The release says Hudspeth admitted to the shooting during an interview with police. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
