The number of serious vehicle crashes continues to climb in Warren County in May as two more people were airlifted Friday night.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Bethany Road and Nashville Highway.
With the latest accident, 11 people have either been killed or airlifted due to a crash on Warren County roadways over a 15-day stretch from May 9-24.
According to highway patrolman Rodney Whiles, the crash happened around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection which is located in a curvy section of road just west of Warren County Memorial Airport.
A preliminary investigation reveals William T. Huneke, 49, was traveling south on Bethany Road in a 1999 Chevy Blazer when he failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection. His vehicle then entered the path of the 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Raymond Doug Wilcher, 55, who had the right of way as he was traveling on Nashville Highway.
The collision knocked Huneke’s SUV into a utility pole, the impact splitting the wooden pole. Meanwhile, Wilcher’s vehicle plunged into a shallow creek.
Both Huneke and Wilcher’s wife and passenger, Nina Wilcher, were airlifted from the scene to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga suffering from what are believed to be non-lifethreatening injuries. Mr. Wilcher was treated at River Park.
Charges are pending.
