It promises to be a lip-smacking, butter-dripping day at the Farmers Market this Saturday.
It’s time for the market’s annual Corn Day, which means free ears of corn will be given away all morning.
“We’ll have a lot of corn, a lot of butter and a lot of salt,” said market manager Mary Cantrell. “We’ll be cooking 45 dozen ears of corn so it’s going to be a hot morning in that kitchen.”
The corn is donated by market vendors so it’s the perfect opportunity to try some corn and then take some home. Cantrell says there will be several varieties of corn available, including peaches and cream, ambrosia, silver king, and silver queen.
“We’ll start serving around 8 a.m.,” she said. “I’ve had some people tell me that’s too early to eat corn, but it’s not too early for me. This corn is delicious. I can eat it for breakfast.”
Even with 45 dozen – 540 ears – the corn does run out. Cantrell suggests arriving by 11 a.m. to ensure corn is still available.
The Farmers Market features vegetables which are all Tennessee grown, the majority of which are Warren County grown. Around 40 vendors are expected this Saturday. Market hours are 6 a.m. to noon.
