SHALER, Pa. (AP) — A father killed his wife and two young daughters before turning the gun on himself inside the family's rented home in a Pittsburgh suburb, police said Monday.
The unidentified man shot his wife and children once each in the head late Sunday night, according to Shaler Township Police Chief Jeff Gally.
The body of one girl, approximately 8 years old, was found in a hallway of the home and bodies of the mother and an infant daughter were found on a bed. The father's body was found on the bedroom floor. Police said he may have still been breathing when investigators arrived but soon died.
"It's a rented home and as far as we can tell they just moved in here three or four weeks ago," Gally said.
Police described the neighborhood as quiet and largely crime-free. The home where the shooting occurred is one of about 10 homes on a dead-end street in Shaler.
Investigators recovered a .357 handgun from the house. No motive has been determined, police said.
"We have no indication as to what caused this tragedy," Gally said
Shaler Township is a residential community of nearly 30,000 just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.
