A Van Buren man was killed Thursday morning when his nephew ran a stop sign at the end of Old Smithville Highway and ran into the path of an oncoming utility truck. The fatally injured victim, Leon Carter, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6 a.m. wreck. His nephew, the driver of the vehicle, Gregory Lewis Lima, 26, also of Van Buren County along with their backseat passenger, Justin Ryan Redmore, 23, of McMinnville, were both airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga and are in critical condition.
