A man who beat himself up and then threatened to blame his injuries on his girlfriend was given 30 days in jail.
The man, Chris Mason, 31, entered a guilty plea before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke to the reduced charge of domestic assault. He is required to complete batterer intervention classes and must stay away from the victim.
According to deputies, Mason wasn’t the only one who suffered injuries in the odd incident. His girlfriend, whom he planned to blame for his injuries, was also hurt.
“She said Chris had hit himself saying she would go to jail,” said Sheriff’s Sgt. Billy Joe Crouch of the victim’s statement to authorities. “She had bruises and a swollen eye where Chris had poked her.”
The victim said they had been arguing for the past two weeks and that, at one point, Mason had grabbed a gun and placed it to his head.
“He put it to his head and pulled the trigger and fell to the ground,” Sgt. Crouch said concerning the victim’s report. “He then got up laughing and stated he was going to kill her.”
She told officers Mason threw the gun into the woods and that she was in fear for her life due to his erratic actions. Mason will be required to forfeit the gun as part of the plea bargain that knocked the felony assault charge down to a misdemeanor.
