DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — A Tennessee man has been sentenced to prison on human trafficking and drug distribution charges.

Santiago Alonso appeared in court Wednesday and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Authorities have said Alonso kidnapped a 17-year-old girl from Meridian, Mississippi, took her to Memphis and Dothan. The girl told police she was forced to take drugs and work as a prostitute.

Assistant Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith said in court that the girl was able to escape from a motel in Dothan and walked eight miles to another motel for help.

Smith says investigators found evidence on Alonso's cellphone, including online ads he placed to prostitute the teen.
