A man who attacked his girlfriend after she reportedly found text messages from another woman on his phone will serve nine months in jail.
The man, Price M. Haywood, 35, entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of domestic assault, evading arrest on foot, and possession of drugs. He was directed to serve 210 days of a three-year sentence and pay $2,000 plus costs.
According to arrest warrants against Haywood, the confrontation began with his girlfriend after she claimed to have found text messages from another woman on his cellphone. The woman said he went into a rage and began to choke her when he was confronted. She admitted throwing pots and pans at him in self-defense, noting she locked him out of the residence once she got him outside.
When police arrived, they tried to subdue the suspect but he fought off a shot by a taser and a chase began on foot.
Police saw Haywood pull out a bag from his clothing and throw it onto a porch as he was running. The bag was recovered and contained 49 small bags of marijuana. He was caught and taken into custody a short time later.
