State Rep. John Mark Windle is scheduled to be the featured speaker Monday morning at Warren County Memorial Airport for the community’s Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 7 a.m.
Windle serves the 41st District in the Tennessee General Assembly. The district includes Jackson, Overton, Morgan and Fentress counties.
Windle is also a lieutenant colonel with Tennessee’s 278th Armored Calvary Regiment. He returned from his third tour of duty in August 2010 from the Balkans and Middle East.
“Serving as a guardsman has given me a greater appreciation of the many freedoms we enjoy in Tennessee and the United States and of the importance of defending those freedoms,” said Windle, a Democrat. “I consider it an honor and privilege to serve our state and country with the 278th alongside hundreds of citizen-soldiers.”
Windle was born in Cookeville in 1962 and is a former assistant district attorney.
Warren County’s Memorial Day ceremony begins at 7 a.m. and includes a reading of the county’s war dead. The ceremony traditionally ends with the playing of “Taps.”
