The Warren County Genealogical & Historical Association (WCGHA) is a group committed to the preservation of the heritage of Warren County. The WCGHA was formed in 1992 with the stated purposes of preserving Warren County's heritage, promoting interest in and raising the standards of genealogical and historical research, encouraging and educating members of the WCGHA and the general public and collecting, preserving and organizing genealogical and historical materials relating to Warren County.
The organization attempts to achieve those purposes in a variety of ways, including a weekly feature in the Southern Standard which enlists the public's help in identifying school pictures from the past. The WCGHA also publishes a monthly electronic newsletter available at tngenweb.org/wcgatn and a bulletin in May and November which is available for purchase or viewing at the WCGHA office at 201 Locust Street in McMinnville next door to the Warren County Archives. Office hours are Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The WCGHA meets on the third Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Early Voting Room at the Warren County Administration Building at 201 Locust St. The meetings are free and open to all. They feature guest speakers and presentations. A recent meeting presented the Tennessee State Archaeologist speaking on the preservation of Cardwell Mountain. Another meeting featured the newly retired state librarian and archivist who spoke about the new Tennessee State Archives.
Every January and July the WCGHA invites members, prospective members and the public to bring an item to show or request information about at show-and-tell meetings.
Those interested in joining the WCGHA can contact the office at (931) 473-4227 or at wcgha.tn@gmail.com. Single memberships are $25 while joint memberships are $35. Members receive the WCGHA bulletin, the monthly newsletter emailed directly to them and discounts on books and other materials.
