Terry Womack is the lucky winner of a free set of tires valued at over $500 in a giveaway sponsored by Champion Chevrolet.

Instead of rushing to the dealership to claim his prize, Womack called his friend and neighbor Richard Evans and alerted him he would be giving the tires to him.

“I couldn’t believe it,” chuckled Evans. “He told me here awhile back that he had registered for it and I thought well, you aren’t going to win it. I really appreciate it.”

As for Womack, he was just as surprised, but said he didn’t hesitate to give the tires away.

“This is my first time ever winning anything and as soon as I found out, the first person I thought about was Richard needing new tires,” said Womack.

Both Vietnam veterans, their friendship formed when Womack moved next door to Evans on Lawson Mill Road. Now, 19 years later, the two men are buddies, who occasionally still swap military stories.

When asked what makes Evans such a great friend, Womack was full of praise.

“He is willing to do anything I ask him to do for me like chores around the house or helping me get around town to run errands,” said Womack.

Interjected Evans humbly, “You have to take care of your neighbors.”

Womack’s act of generosity has already had a ripple effect. Inspired by his kindness, Champion Chevrolet owner Alex Nafe decided to waive the $70 maintenance fee to mount and install the tires.

“Since he is being so generous with his friend, I’m taking care of the mounting and balancing instead of it being extra. I’m glad to see such worthy winners,” said Nafe.

Evans looks forward to putting the new Ironman tires on his pickup.
