Free tickets to the Gilley Pool was as easy as one, two, three on Tuesday, as kids lined up to take part in three activities set up by WCTE PBS. Upon completing the three activities, free tickets to the pool were given, as well as free popsicles and a book of their choice.

Sarah Savage, education and engagement coordinator for WCTE, said the event is a much-anticipated one every year. “This is the WCTE PBS Back-to-School Bash. We do this every year,” said Savage.

“Kids 12 and under get in free to the pool if they come by and visit our activities,” she said. One activity was music making. Children got to choose from an assortment of instruments such as bells, tambourines and hand drums, and play music inspired by the PBS show “Alma’s Way.”

There was a bubble station as well, where children  tried different bubble-making wands, inspired by “Splash and Bubbles.”

Lastly, there was an art-themed doodle, sketch and pattern station inspired by “Work it out Wombats.”

Savage says WCTE is always excited for the back-to-school event each year, and are happy to do all it can to continue community engagement.
