Pre-K and kindergarten enrollment will be at Milner Recreation Center in March.
At the Warren County School Board meeting Monday night, Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows informed the board of the plans for the upcoming registration. Two years ago the registration was first held at MRC and worked really well. In the past, registration has been held at Bobby Ray and the Warren County High School, but both caused a lot of traffic.
“We talked to Justin Scott at Milner Recreation Center and they were very helpful for us to be able to come back there and have that event,” said Swallows.
Pre-K and kindergarten registration will be on Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31. Registration is usually three days long, but Swallows feels it can all be done in two days with the space available at MRC.
“This is for all upcoming kindergarten students and upcoming pre-K students. That information will be going out in letter form to our community. We are actually taking down a day. We usually do three days, but because we have such great space at Milner Recreation Center we are going to use the bottom for kindergarten and the top for pre-K registration and it will actually give us more space so we won’t have to spend as much time. That is also beneficial because we are taking teachers and employees out of school buildings, so only having two days I think is very important,” said Swallows.
More information will be in the letters sent out, but Swallows requests parents bring the following items: Birth certificate, proof of address in the form of a utility bill, immunization record and physical exam record.
For anyone confused about what school their child is zoned for, city storm water manager Lyndon Bussell helped create a map on the school system’s website that will tell you what school they are zoned for. On the website, click the tab “I want to” then click “Find my zoned school." Once you enter your address, the map will show what school your child is zoned for.
