Parade set for Sunday

It quite literally rained on McMinnville Parks and Recreation's Christmas Parade last Saturday and the new date is scheduled for Sunday.

The rainy weather on Saturday caused McMinnville Parks and Recreation to make the call to reschedule the annual Christmas Parade.

“It was unfortunate. We really thought we would get the best of the weather, but unfortunately we did not,” said McMinnville Parks and Recreation program coordinator Rene A. Alvarez.

The parade is this Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. Lineup will be at 12:30 p.m. around the Milner Recreation Center. The decision to have the parade on a Sunday is due to basketball beginning this Saturday at the Milner Recreation Center.

“We have had such a big growth in basketball, not just participants but also attendance. The parade takes up the whole front parking lot for two hours or more and it is just not really appropriate because so many people come in and out so we need both parking lots for parking. It gets really busy here on Saturdays,” explained Alvarez.

There is a chance of rain this Sunday, but Alvarez hopes it will not affect the parade this time.

“I think it is expected to rain Saturday and early Sunday morning, but it shouldn’t affect the evening,” said Alvarez.
