The Greenway 5K and Furr Fest will be held June 11 beginning at noon. Two events have been combined to offer runners and dog lovers alike a chance to enjoy the Barren Fork Greenway. Pictured is event organizer Blaine Wilcher and Rocko, who is a mini Dachshund named after Rocky Balboa.

The Greenway 5K and Furr Fest will be held next Saturday, June 11, at Riverfront Park. Register for the race now and receive a T-shirt.
While the Greenway 5K is in its fourth year, Furr Fest is new.
“We had to have a city-certified event to go with our race by the city’s requirement,” said Brook Holmes, co-director of Main Street McMinnville. “So now we have the Greenway 5K and Furr Fest. It’s going to be wonderful. People can bring their pets out to walk the greenway. Then, we will have our race.”
McMinnville Animal Control and Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center will hold Furr Fest from 12 to 4 p.m. Local vets will be on hand offering rabies shots for $12. Both departments will have animals available for adoption. Information regarding spay and neutering, as well as other pet-related information, will be available.
Donations of dog and cat food will be accepted for both departments.
Main Street McMinnville’s Greenway 5K begins at 5:30 p.m., with on-site registration starting two hours prior and the cost is $15. Pre-registration at Reg2Run.com is $25 with a T-shirt and $15 without.
The mission of Main Street McMinnville is to establish a partnership between the public and private sectors dedicated to the continued revitalization of downtown McMinnville, with emphasis on community livability, economic restructuring, and historic preservation.
“We host events like this, and Main Street Live, to bring people into the downtown area so they will see everything that’s there and what a beautiful place it is,” said Holmes.
Main Street Live summer concert series is slated to kick off next Friday night, June 10, at 7 p.m. with Shawn Savage offering a rock/country theme. Concessions open at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy free music on the West Lawn of Security Federal Bank.
