This year’s Great Bodies Car Show will offer visitors a look at two NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Darrell Waltrip tribute cars.

NASCAR enthusiasts and those looking to show off their ride for a good cause should cruise into the eighth annual Great Bodies Car Show on Aug. 10 at 10 a.m.

On display will be two NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Darrell Waltrip tribute cars. The vehicles are owned by “Preacher” Franklin. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Champion Chevrolet on Sparta Street.

The event is a fundraiser for Families in Crisis. Bring your vehicle and enter for a chance to win one of more than 70 awards. Entry fees: $25 for one, $40 for two, and $50 for three. Not-judged entries will be $10.

“We have over 70 awards to give away,” said Blaine Wilcher, event organizer. “There will be great food, great ’80s music, silent auctions, door prizes, swap meet booths, and more. We’ve raised over $30,000 since our first show for Families in Crisis.”

Also will be the return of “The Blaine Crusher” monster truck owned by Scotty Crouse of Manchester, a Tennessee Highway Patrol rollover simulator, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency exhibit trailer.

For the second year, the Greg McBride Memorial Award winner will be announced. It is given to a local person who goes above and beyond to help others.

“I love putting on this show,” said Wilcher. “I couldn’t do it without our great sponsors, the Families in Crisis crew, my gear head friends and family, and the public who always support this great cause.”

Along the more than 20 event sponsors are Dr Pepper Bottling Company and Champion Chevrolet.

The show is free to the public.
