The fugitive drug trafficker who absconded nearly two weeks ago with his 3-year-old son has been nabbed near Ft. Myers, Fla.
The fugitive, Cecil Corey Haggins, was caught Sunday morning after a silent alarm went off at a car dealership where he was trespassing after hours. Police arrived and found him along with fellow Warren County resident Tammy Crusinberry. They also found 37 grams of methamphetamine on them along with oxycodone and drug paraphernalia. They were in possession of two stolen guns that investigators believe were stolen from Cookeville.
“They lied about who they were,” said Sheriff Jackie Matheny, noting the pair is also charged with fraud for not being honest with lawmen about their identities.
Haggins had been the point of a nationwide manhunt after he fled Warren County with his young son after deputies raided his Old Shelbyville Road home and found a large cache of meth. Haggins and his son dropped out of sight for almost a week before they showed up on Haggins’ sister’s doorstep in Florida.
Haggins left the child in her custody and went back on the run. While lawmen did not believe he would harm his son, they worried about the toddler being with his fugitive father while he was running from the law. The child’s mother is in jail so Haggins had custody of the child and faces no charges for fleeing with the boy across state lines.
Haggins will face his new charges in Lee County, Fla., before he is extradited back to Warren County to face his charges here.
