Failure to yield is being cited as the cause of a motor vehicle collision on New Nashville Highway at midday on Friday.

Involved in the crash were Warren County residents Bobby Ashburn, 73, and John Mears, 68.

According to state trooper Joseph VanBommel, Ashburn was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado on Crisp Springs Road going toward Old Nashville Highway.

“Mr. Ashburn was traveling southbound on Crisp Springs Road. He was attempting to cross Highway 70 when he entered the path of oncoming traffic,” said VanBommel.

Mears was traveling inbound on the highway driving a 1999 Saturn.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin, leave the roadway and come to rest against a guardrail. Mears was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated. It took approximately 20 minutes for emergency personnel to free him.

Both occupants were transported by Warren County EMS to Saint Thomas River Park Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Ashburn was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The crash occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m.
