Driver of motorcycle airlifted after ill-fated attempt to pass tractor
Hit-and-run crash

A motorcycle rider was airlifted Tuesday night after trying to pass a tractor on Green Hill Road.

The motorcyclist, Matthew Young, 44, of Warren County, was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, with injuries which aren’t believed to be life-threatening.

According to the Highway Patrol, Young was following a tractor on Green Hill Road and traveling toward Smithville Highway when the accident took place at 8:25 p.m.

Young decided to try and pass the slow-moving tractor, which was driven by Darrell Cantrell, 64, of Warren County. As Young was trying to pass the tractor, it made a turn to go into a driveway. Young saw what was happening and took evasive action.

“From what I can tell, the tractor and motorcycle never actually made contact,” said Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Ballew. “But in the attempt to avoid the tractor, the motorcycle lost control, slid off the road, and ended up in a creek.”

Sgt. Ballew said Young was riding a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle and described the farm tractor as medium-sized.
