One man has died while another continues to recover from serious injuries sustained Monday night in a crash at the intersection of Smithville Highway and Lowery Lane.Bill Askew Jr., 77, succumbed to his injuries Tuesday evening, just over 24 hours following the wreck while Luther George Jr., 72, remains under treatment. They were both airlifted from the scene by separate LifeForce helicopters which made their landings in the parking lot of Dayspring Community Church located next to the accident scene. Askew was flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, while George was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.According to Highway Patrolman Rodney Whiles, the wreck happened around 5 p.m. when a white Buick driven by Askew tried to make a turn onto Lowery Lane from Smithville Highway.
