Commissioners consider meeting schedule change

Warren County commissioners are considering a change in custom.
Traditionally, the full Warren County Commission meets on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. A change is being considered for January and February to the third Tuesday so as not to conflict with the federal, state and local holidays of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day, respectively. Those days are paid holidays for government employees.
The county Policy and Personnel Committee met Tuesday to consider making the modification. In attendance were Ken Martin, chair, Wayne Copeland and Charles Morgan
“I do think it would be good if we could change these from Monday to Tuesday both months, January and February,” said Martin.
According to Martin, the existing situation requires county employees, county commissioners, department heads, etc., to work on a holiday.
Copeland agreed.
“If the offices are closed, I don’t see them coming in here for two to three hours just to have the meeting that night,” Copeland said. “It’s whatever the committee wants to do.”
Committee members voted unanimously to present a resolution to the full Warren County Commission that would change the meeting nights of January and February to the third Tuesday. All other months would remain unchanged.
The measure will be under consideration in November, unless a motion is made to add it to the October agenda, which has already been set.
