It was a doggy’s downtown paradise at the McMinnville-Warren County Chamber of Commerce Friday on the square. The first ever “Raise the Woof” event was a great way to beat the heat and meet some homeless dogs in need of a forever home.

Thanks to volunteers from both public animal shelters in Warren County, six special dogs got to meet a lot of new people and show off their good manners. Taking the dogs for a spin on the sidewalks and beside the fountains was a popular pastime as pet lovers got to meet new people and socialize.

McMinnville Animal Control (MAC) and Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center (WCACAC) worked together to get their crated adoptees to the building and ready to meet their potential new humans.

The event was organized to educate and encourage donations and adoptions. Chamber Visitor Coordinator Jackie Borowiak was pleased with the turnout of over 60 curious canine lovers. She and other chamber members were there to meet and greet interested parties, while some folks even traveled from out of the county to see the menagerie in downtown McMinnville.

“While none of the dogs were formally adopted today, we got enough donations to have the adoption fees of several animals sponsored,” said Hollie Cox, three-year veteran volunteer at MAC. “Everything went smoothly, and we hope we can get these pets adopted soon.”

Officer Keith Boren from MAC was on hand as well, proud of his volunteers and his dogs. He got to see some old dogs they’ve found homes for in the past and it felt like a family reunion.

To find out more about the process of becoming a foster or adopting a MAC shelter animal, Cox can be reached at (931) 235-8538 and Boren at (931) 473-2553.

Unless sponsored, adoptions are normally $97, which includes the cost of the dog being fixed and its rabies vaccination. MAC is located at 1266 Belmont Dr.

Attendees received goodie bags from All Paws Boarding and Country Bark Boarding. Gift baskets courtesy of both local businesses will be given out this week to lucky raffle winners.

Cats are available at WCACAC for adoption as well as dogs and some are sponsored. WCACAC can be reached at (931) 507-3647.
