A car jumped a guardrail on Shellsford Road Friday.

Driving the vehicle was Kristopher Adkins, 29. He was traveling outbound when he veered to the left at the driveway of 5234 Shellsford Road. The vehicle struck a safety guardrail in the area of 5201 Shellsford Road, likely catapulting over it and landed in a steep ravine.

No one witnessed the crash.

The homeowner at 5201 called E-911 dispatchers and reported hearing a man’s voice yelling “Help Me!” and “I’m Dying!” at approximately 12:30 p.m. Then, they reported seeing a man climb from the ravine, climb over a guardrail and sit down beside it.

When Warren County Sheriff’s Department arrived, Mr. Adkins was sitting on the guardrail. He had sustained numerous injuries, from his head down to his legs. At that time, the red Dodge Neon was discovered.

Adkins was transported by ground to Saint Thomas River Park by Warren County EMS. The exact extent of his injuries is unknown.

Crews worked three hours to retrieve the vehicle from the ravine. In the end, a crane was used to hoist it back onto the roadway.

Warren County Sheriff’s Department reported that the cause of the crash is still under investigation and citations are pending.
