Shoppers take advantage of tax holiday

Many people took advantage of tax free weekend, saving nearly 10 percent on clothing, school supplies and computers while keeping in mind the motto, “Try Here Buy Here.” Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday began Friday and continues through tonight. The tax-free weekend officially ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.With the first day of school only four days away on Aug. 8, this weekend provides an opportune time to hit the stores.Shoes and clothing that cost less than $100, school and art supplies under $100 and home computers that cost less than $1,500 are among the many items that can be purchased without sales tax.Local resident Donhua Hillis was one shopper who took advantage of the savings.
