Road Superintendent Levie Glenn has asked members of the county’s Financial Management Committee to allow his department to sell surplus equipment at a local auction instead of listing the items online.
“I would like to give local people a chance to buy if they are interested,” said Glenn. “By putting these items in a local auction, local residents will have a chance to bid. I would like them to go to local people, if they want them.”
The committee has previously placed surplus items online at www.govdeals.com. Dennis Baird, a Finance Department bookkeeper, said the items placed on govdeals.com have generated much interest in the past.
The highway department has a 1975 John Deere tractor, two 1995 Ford Aerostar vans, a 1995 Ford F250 4X4 pickup, and a 1985 Ford F700 two-ton flatbed truck.
The committee voted to approve Glenn’s request and allow a local auctioneer sell the vehicles. Glenn said he hopes to add the surplus items to a local realtor’s auction, preferably before the weather turns too cold.
