The signs outside Goody's are alarming.
They blare "Store Closing" and "Everything Must Go."
Goody's is in the process of closing at Three Star Mall, but it will be replaced by Gordmans, a store owned by the same company, Stage Stores.
The store is expected to stay open under the Goody's brand until January or February, according to store manager Patsy Brown. She said she expects to continue getting new merchandise until September or October.
The store will close and reopen as Gordmans, a company Stage Stores acquired in 2017. Stage began testing the conversion of some of its stores to Gordmans last year and announced a long-term strategy to convert more of its stores to Gordmans earlier this year.
"I think this will be a good thing," said Brown. "The stores they've converted so far have all done well."
Gordmans is an off-price store with a heavy emphasis on home decor items.
"Our home department will be three times bigger," said Brown.
