Warren County residents are invited to participate in the ninth annual Tarp the Truck event at the Fairgrounds Convenience Center tomorrow. The free tarp giveaway is part of the county’s litter program.
The program, funded by a grant from Tennessee Department of Transportation, will provide a free 8-foot by 10-foot tarpaulin to the first 150 residents who bring at least one bag of recyclable material to the convenience center.
Litter grant coordinator Mary Lou Ward says the event is an effort to reduce litter on Warren County roads.
“We’ve trying to encourage people who own trucks and carry their trash off without any covering on the back to tarp the bed to keep any debris from flying out on the road or causing danger to other drivers,” said Ward.
Only the first 150 people bringing in a bag of recyclable items will be given a free tarp. Recyclable items include aluminum cans, plastic containers, cardboard, paper, or any other recyclable material accepted at the Fairgrounds Convenience Center.
The event geared toward keeping Warren County beautiful begins at 7:30 a.m. and is for Warren County residents only. Regular hours of the convenience center are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
