Residents graduate
from ETSU
East Tennessee State University conferred some 1,500 degrees in two spring commencement ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, on May 7.
Local graduates include:
• McMinnville: Megan L. Hobbs, bachelor of science; Aaron B. Thomas, bachelor of science
• Morrison: Kayla L. Bess, bachelor of science; Casandra M. Rogers, bachelor of science in nursing.

Newman honored
by academy
Shelby Lane Newman was named to the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in academic honor roll.
A ninth-grader at Warren County High School, Newman will be included in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook published nationally. She was nominated by WCHS counselor Stacy Smith.
Newman is the daughter of George and Heather Newman of McMinnville. Grandparents are Danny and Dottie Hillis and Ed and Mamie Newman, all of McMinnville.
Bragg gets degree
from Webb School
The Webb School in Bell Buckle celebrated its core mission on Friday, May 27, when 48 of its students received “the Bible” containing their Webb diplomas.
Alex Bragg of McMinnville represents Warren County in Webb’s class of 2011.
All 48 students who started the year as seniors made the momentous walk across stage, a remarkable accomplishment, said Head of School Ray Broadhead. Forty-seven graduates are enrolled in colleges and universities and one graduate is joining the military, Broadhead added.

Turner graduates
from Rhodes
Tyler Turner of McMinnville was among graduates who received degrees at the 162nd commencement exercises of Rhodes College on May 14. Rhodes president William E. Troutt presided over the ceremony.
Turner graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in music and also was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society this year. He is the son of Denise Turner Higgins of McMinnville, and Charles Turner of McMinnville.
Founded in 1848, Rhodes is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences. It’s located in Memphis.

Hoover makes
dean’s list
Rebeccah Cade Hoover, the daughter of Freddy and Leslie Hoover of Viola, has earned a place on the dean’s list at Appalachian State University for the spring semester 2011.
To be included in the list, a student must either be enrolled for 12-14 hours of course work, for which quality points are computed, and attain a GPA of 3.45 or better, or be enrolled for a minimum of 15 hours of course work for which quality points are computed and attain a grade point average of 3.25 or better.
Records indicate Hoover’s GPA was 3.66 on a 4.0 scale during the spring semester. She is a rising senior at Appalachian State.
