The local National Day of Prayer observance will take place this Thursday at noon at the Farmers Market.
Several church officials are scheduled to speak at the annual ceremony which has been held at the Farmers Market for years. People of all denominations are encouraged to attend what has been described as an uplifting and inspirational event.
Speakers scheduled to pray at the event include Westwood Church of Christ preacher Coy Hathcock, McMinnville Church of God preacher Jeff Page, and Friendship Baptist preacher Jason Brown. Others scheduled to lead prayer include Nathan Smith and Jarvis Johnson.
“In this day when it seems society is going in the wrong direction, prayer is what is going to turn us around,” said Page. “But like a large vessel, we’re not going to turn on a dime. It’s going to take time.”
Organizers are also planning to sing a hymn.
The local observance usually lasts about 30 minutes.
