What’s more alluring than a good deal?
City officials will be considering a proposal Tuesday night by McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord to allow him to lower the daily admission fee from $5 to $2 on the second Tuesday of each month.
“We just want to do a little promotion and draw more interest in what we offer here,” said McCord. “We would like to provide a $2 Tuesday every second Tuesday of the month. We went with twos. We see this as a way to get new people in here or maybe get people who haven’t been here in a while back into the facility. Once a month, rather than paying $5 they can pay $2. With committee approval, we would like to offer it and see what happens.”
Most people know about Gilley Pool during the summer. However, the Civic Center complex also offers an indoor tennis court and a Wellness Center, as well as various fitness classes. It has multiple rooms to rent for organizational meetings, conferences, birthday parties, banquets, and other group functions.
Among the classes offered are:
Step and Tone, a cardio workout to ensure both a good burn of calories and toning of muscles.
Circuit Aerobics, a high-intensity class designed to focus on muscle strengthening and toning.
Indoor Cycling, which strengthens the heart and lungs, burns calories, lowers total cholesterol and decreases stress.
Body Sculpting, a class designed to target all muscle groups.
Zumba, which allows participants to dance their way into shape.
Boxing Fitness, a class that offers the essentials of boxing for cardiovascular and muscle training.
CORE, an intense workout for the stubborn torso areas while focusing on toning and strengthening the body’s core abdominal and back muscles.
Parks and Recreation Committee members will be meeting at 6:40 p.m. this Tuesday to consider the proposal.
Given committee approval and a subsequent positive reaction from the public, $2 Tuesdays could be expanded.
“Hopefully, if we see more people coming in on that day, we can offer some special games for kids and make it more like a family fun day,” said McCord.
