One driver was airlifted and the other taken to jail after a two-car collision in a residential neighborhood Monday night.
Failing brakes are being blamed for the crash.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Moss Drive and Couch Street, which is located in the residential area behind Gondola. Cade Reagan, 20, was airlifted after his car flipped on its roof.
Reagan was driving a 1998 Nissan Maxima on Moss Drive when his vehicle reportedly lost its brakes. According to McMinnville policeman Kenneth Seagraves, the passenger in the vehicle, Richard Goodwin, said Reagan pushed the brake pedal to the floor but the car did not stop.
Goodwin said Reagan then used the emergency brake, but he wasn’t in time to prevent the vehicle from entering the intersection. Officer Seagraves said skid marks indicate the emergency brake was used.
The Maxima entered the intersection and collided with a 1996 Nissan 240 driven by Juana Rodriguez. She was traveling on Couch Street toward McDonald’s.
The force of impact caused the Reagan vehicle to flip on its roof. Officer Seagraves said Reagan was unable to communicate at the scene and had to be airlifted to Vanderbilt. Goodwin, 22, was transported to River Park.
The occupants of the other vehicle, Rodriguez and her son Nieves Rodriguez, were not injured.
However, Mrs. Rodriguez was arrested at the scene for driving on a suspended license.
