Boyd Christian School will be under the guidance of a new principal for the 2014-15 school year. Tabetha Sullens has be chosen by Boyd’s board of directors to fill the position being vacated by Weldon Parkinson. Parkinson was chosen as temporary principal for the private school in 2011.
Sullens holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from MTSU. She recently added art certification K-12 as an endorsement. She will receive her Educational Leadership certificate in July. She is also working toward a master’s degree in Arts in Teaching.
Sullens started teaching at Boyd in 2010 and has taught at almost every grade level. She has also served as Fundraiser for the private school.
“I am honored and humbled to be able to serve the Boyd family in this capacity. My role at Boyd has been a blessing. I love these students like they are my own and I cherish each and every hug I receive outside of school,” said Sullens.
“I have seen Boyd Christian School go through many changes. I have worked closely with the past three administrators and learned so much from them. We are grateful for the support of our community and those around us who see the need for Christian education. I have seen many academic changes. I have seen the school become SACS accredited. We are preparing students for college with rigorous guidelines and academic work loads. We employ quality certified teaches, most of whom hold advanced degrees and endorsements.”
“From the day I transition into the leadership role at Boyd, my motto and goal will be Changing minds. Changing lives. Changing souls. We pride ourselves in the fact we can pray over our lunch, our classes, our flagpole, our ball games and anytime we see fit. We teach humility , responsibility and respect. We also teach elementary Spanish and Fine Arts. We teach advanced maths and sciences as well as meet all the Tennessee state curriculum guidelines,” she said.
One change being made at the school is the introduction of Etiquette to the curriculum for the upcoming school year.” I am proud to introduce Etiquette to our rotations. We will teach and encourage manners to our elementary and middle school students this fall,” said Sullens.
Sullens’ husband, Chris, has been associated with the school for 10 years as a coach of various teams. He presently serves as the high school boys basketball coach.
Sullens’ daughter, Lexi, will be in the eighth grade in the fall and her son, London, will be in second grade. “My kids are here and my nephew, Taven, is also a student. He will be a sophomore,” said Sullens.
Board school chairman Brett Merritt said, “We are fortunate to have someone of Tabetha’s character and love for the work at BCS. We look forward to working with her for many years.”
