WCMS Pioneers Andrew Key, No. 25, fights for a rebound with White County’s Jordan Brown, No. 13, in Monday night’s game at Charlie Dalton Gym. The Pioneers won, 41-30.

The Warren County Middle School Pioneer basketball team dominated White County in their season opener at the high school Charlie Dalton Gym on Monday night.

Followers of local basketball might have been surprised to see the Pioneers shoot better than a White County team, but Warren County clearly dominated in all facets of the game. The final score, 41-30, was not indicative of Warren County’s dominance.

Andrew Key and Nate Turner were top scorers for Warren County. The outcome was never in doubt. Warren County dominated on the boards, and had better outside shooters. Nate Turner made four 3-pointers, and Andrew Key was hustling all over the court scoring points.

WCMS coach Kevin Burnett commented on his team after the game. Burnett said, “I thought we played pretty well. Sparta has a good program. This is the first time we have been able to play – no scrimmages and no camps. We have a lot of room for improvement. For the most part of the night, we were a little out of composure. We rushed things a little bit. We want to play fast, but sometimes you want to slow things down. You want to play smart.”

The Pioneers play again Thursday night on the road against Tullahoma West.
