The Warren County Pioneers took one more step toward an undefeated regular season Thursday as they traveled to Franklin County South and trampled the Trojans, 51-28.“We played team ball and that’s how we have to play … as a team,” said Warren County Middle School coach Isaiah Phillips. The dominating defense of the Pioneers held the Trojans to just 1 point in the first quarter while simultaneously scoring 15 points of their own.It wasn’t until the third quarter Franklin South found any traction mainly due to Trojan Dillian Grimes becoming a foul magnet for the Pioneers. Grimes made 6-of-6 shots from the charity stripe and was the game-high top scorer with 12 points.Even with the late-game rally, the Pioneers stayed step-for-step with the Trojans with both teams earning 14 and 8 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.Heading up the offense for the Pioneers were the two C.J.’s, C.J. Anthony and C.J. Taylor, who both hit for 11 points apiece, Dante Elam 9, Chase Simerly and Kaden Jordan both had 7 points, Aiden Cummings 4 and Tyler Taylor hit a field goal for 2 points. The Pioneers face one more season challenge to go undefeated as they play host to White County on Thursday, Jan. 19. Games start at 6 p.m.For breaking sports news and scores from the field, join the Southern Standard text club by texting sports to 77000 (Msg&DataRatesMayApply).
