The WCMS boys cross country team ran like the wind during the school’s first-ever home meet Thursday afternoon.
Led by Alec Smith, the top overall finisher, the Pioneer boys captured the top four spots in beating Franklin North.
Smith finished the course in a blistering 14:08. He was followed by teammates Riley Bundy (14:13) in second, Parker Smith (15:17) in third, and Jorge Vazquez (15:23) in fourth.
Owen Stewart was the top finisher for North with a time of 15:26 to claim fifth place.
The WCMS girls couldn’t defeat the gazelle-like girls from Franklin North as Kara McDaniel was the top finisher in 15:10.
Lady Pioneer Shelbe Gross was the first WCMS girl to cross the finish line in 18:01. She was fourth among female runners.
Other finishers for the WCMS girls were Sydney Matthews (21:20) in seventh, Gracie Orrick (22:33) in ninth, and Avery McGiboney (22:37) in 10th.
