Jakob Morin could barely make out his teammate Abraham Pumarino within a group of Tullahoma defenders, but he decided to center a pass anyway.
Pumarino was the quickest to the ball and his sliding shot was right on the money.
In one scoring play, the youth movement for the Warren County High School soccer team was realized.
The freshmen's connection in the first period was a jump start to a 4-2 Pioneer victory over Tullahoma Friday night.
Warren County (1-1) started its season with a 6-0 road loss to Shelbyville, but the Pioneer team breaking in new starters at several position looked right at home Friday night. New starter Roberto Avila added a first-half goal while mainstays Cole Millard and Ethan Bandy scored in the second half to power the Pioneers to victory.
Morin and Pumarino were headliners in a freshman class that was supposed to make an immediate impact this season and they didn't disappoint in their home debut. After 27 minutes of scoreless play, Pumarino's goal off a pass from Morin gave Warren County a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Avila made it 2-0 shortly before halftime when ran under a pass down the middle of the field and chipped in a shot over the Wildcat keeper.
Tullahoma cut the Pioneer lead to one twice in the second half, but the visitors never could change the momentum.
After the Wildcats opened the second half with a score, Millard and Bandy sandwiched goals around a successful corner kick by Tullahoma.
Pioneer keeper Jacob Dodd, who was a spot starter last year before earning the job full time this season, helped his team maintain a two-goal cushion with a number of saves down the stretch.
The early win was big for Warren County after needing 11 games last year to claim its first victory.
The Pioneers will try to make it two in a row Monday when the team plays Middle Tennessee Christian School. Warren County also plays DeKalb County at home Tuesday and goes on the road to face Ooltewah Thursday.
