COVID-19 shut down Ooltewah High School for cleaning on Tuesday.
That night, the Warren County girls soccer team cleaned up the Lady Owls from Ooltewah on the soccer field with a decisive 5-1 victory.
The Lady Pioneers were very aggressive and controlled the game from beginning to finish.
After the game, WCHS coach Todd Willmore was pleased with the team’s effort. Willmore said, “We did some good things. We came out with intensity. We had a little letdown in the first half after scoring our first goal. Beyond that, we played really well.”
Two girls did all the scoring for the Lady Pioneers. Bekah Jackson scored two goals and Katie Toney scored three.
Toney, a junior, said, “I thought we played really good. We came out fast and that helped us score our first goal. Even though they got one after us, we kept going.”
Jackson, a sophomore, was glad to finally be playing soccer again. She said, “It was nice to get back on the field. It was February when I played my last game. It was nice to play somebody.”
The WCHS girls soccer team faced Riverdale at home last night. The score was not available at press time. Visit www.southernstandard.com and follow us on Facebook for game updates.
