Vandagriffs to appear on ESPNU

Warren County High School fishermen Samuel and Matthew Vandagriff competed in the Costa High School Bassmaster National Championship Aug. 4-6 on Kentucky Lake in Paris, TN.Schools that participated in the event were eligible to qualify two-angler teams for the championship.There were 175 teams and 340 anglers from across the country and Ontario representing 170 schools.The Vandagriff brothers qualified three separate times for the event. The brothers first qualified by winning CBA tournament in Chattanooga.The brothers then qualified for a second time when they finished 10th in the Bassmaster High School Southern Open on Guntersville Lake in Alabama and then came first in points in the Southeast Tennessee Bass High School Trail, naming them the state champions for the 2015-16 season, qualifying them again.Their father, Barry Vandagriff, accompanied them on the boat and since they finished second and third on the first and second days, they were also joined in and out of the boat by an ESPN cameraman and a Bethel University College angler on the second and third days.On the final day of the event, the Vandagriff’s finished seventh in downtown Paris with a total weight of 43 pounds, 15 ounces.The team received a $1,000 scholarship.The championship will be aired tomorrow at 8 a.m. on ESPNU and then again Sunday at 6 a.m. and Saturday Aug. 27 at 7 a.m.
