In his first official act as new WCHS girls basketball coach, Kyle Turnham assembled his first Lady Pioneer roster Tuesday. The veteran coach picked 22 girls to be part of his first squad.

Changing the culture has been a big point for Turnham since taking the job last month and he stressed that point before starting tryouts. He told each athlete they'd be operating with "a clean slate" and they wouldn't be looking back for their prior results. It's all about the future for Turnham and the future will be now for many Lady Pioneers who are hoping to blossom into bigger roles with the new coaching staff.

Atop Turnham's first roster is a senior class featuring Valery Esparza, Brinlee Griffith, Bri Taylor and Zoie Verge. Taylor was the team's leading scorer last year, while all four have plenty of experience playing varsity ball. Trinity Reynolds and Kealey Simpson are rising juniors on the squad, while the sophomore class is the most robust under Turnham.

Ten rising sophomores made the cut, making up nearly half the entire roster. Those who made the roster are Gabi Castillo, Anslee Crick, Ruby Denning, Harmoni Kennerly, Maci McBride, Aubrey Oleksik, Alyssa Parsley, Alexia Ross, Addison Steakley and Chloe Wanamaker. McBride, a starter as a freshman last year, was sidelined during tryouts due to a knee injury and her status for the season is still unknown.

Joining the ranks of high school players are six new freshmen, including four former WCMS Lady Pioneers. Brynlee Chisam, Leah Mara, Cortlyn Porter and Kaydence Wiser will all be teammates again as Lady Pioneers, while former Irving College Lady Tiger Zoe Jones and Presley Winfree - a champion with Centertown last season - also made the team.

Warren County will get to work quickly to prepare for camps this summer. The Lady Pioneers are scheduled to attend Lebanon team camp on June 10-11 and will also head to MTSU to play on June 17-19.
