The Southern Standard partners with R3 Logistics and Mud Bums Family Sports Grill to honor a Pioneer of the Week throughout the year. Our honoree from Feb. 11 - Feb. 17 is Lady Pioneer Bri Taylor.
If Bri Taylor needed motivation and momentum going into the offseason, she got both last week. Taylor capped her breakout junior year with an 18-point, eight-rebound performance against Columbia in the District 9-4A tournament. It helped the Lady Pioneers stay close to the Lions for three quarters, but Warren County ultimately saw its season end with a 66-46 loss.
Putting up big numbers was something Taylor did plenty, so much so that she looked like a top candidate from Warren County to earn all-district honors. Taylor was left off the list though as nobody from the Lady Pioneers, who finished last in district play, was recognized.
Taylor can use the slight as fuel going into next season. Building off a strong junior year - and emerging as a focal point of the WCHS offense - could get her the honor next year. Taylor was efficient all over the court this season, hitting 52.5 percent from inside the 3-point line, nailing 43.5 percent of her outside shots and hitting 75 percent from the line.
Despite being slowed by an ankle injury over Christmas break, Taylor was able to bounce back in the last month to score 21 points in an upset at Shelbyville and pull down a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double at Lincoln County.
