When Allison Sweatman and Marley Harris found out WCHS was going to have a full-fledged female wrestling team this season, they didn't show up in hopes of giving it a try. The duo wanted to dominate.

Sweatman and Harris got the reward after their winter of hard work Friday as each earned a bid to the TSSAA state tournament with big days at the Region 2 tournament. Harris placed third in the 165-pound division at region, while Sweatman finished fourh in the 152-pound bracket. Finishing in the top four was the cut-off for state bids in each eight-person weight class.

Harris, a Cannon County student who wrestles with Warren County through the school's co-op program, was seconds away from wrestling for a region championship Friday. After taking otut her opening opponent - Soddy Daisy sophomore Edith Provence - in 28 seconds, Harris was ahead in points against Samarah Tafiti in the semifinals going into the third round.

Tafiti was able to get a take down and eventual pin just 11 seconds before the final buzzer, one that would've sent the duo into a sudden-death OT finish. Harris was able to bounce back by beating Savannah Davis 9-0 to qualify for state and smashing Jade Lenhart (Coffee County) in 1:04 in the third-place match,

Sweatman, also a standout with the JROTC program at Warren County High School, got her night started in region with a third-round pin of Avery Grant. She followed with a loss to eventual champion Bella Harris, a senior from Cleveland, before bouncing back when she faced the end of her season.

Taking on White County's Zoey Clemmons in the blood round - named due its importance and being the difference between a state bid (for the winner) or the end of the line (for the loser) - Sweatman was at her best. She secured a take down early and then worked immediately into a pin as she punched her ticket to the state tournament.

Freshman Lily Moore also respresented Warren County in the Region 2 tournament. Moore gave eventual champion Abigail Silbermann her toughest battle in the quarterinals, lasting 5:10 until being pinned.

Moore bounced back to win over Sale Creek"s Cassie Wilson on the consolation side with a first-round pin, but missed making the top four by two matches.
