Playing opening night on the road, the Boyd Broncos traveled to Bobby Ray Elementary to play the Stars in 5-6 grade boys basketball action Tuesday night.
Despite a flurry of fourth-quarter scoring by the Broncos, the Stars shined consistently brighter with a 25-21 victory.
Hitting for 9 of his 13 points, including a nice 3-pointer, Boyd’s Gage Harris was part of the late-game catchup attempt. The Broncos outscored the Stars 15-4 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to combat the steady stream of Bobby Ray’s Treyton Terry and Isaiah Cummings, who had 11 and 8 points, respectively.
“We are young and small but my kids play with great heart and intensity,” said Boyd head coach Chris Perry. “I am excited about the future.”
Also scoring for Bobby Ray were Garryn Duggin with 4 points and Taven Black with 2 points.
Contributing to Boyd Christian School’s total were Nathan Turner who had 6 points and Thomas Burks hit for two points.
Boyd Christian School traveled to Centertown last night to seek its first win of the season. Results were not available at press time. Bobby Ray will face Centertown at home Monday night. Game time is 6 p.m.
